Grand Hotel Tremezzo has been a bucket list hotel for quite some time!
The images you see of Italian holiday glamour all exist in this iconic art noveau villa. Lying in the town of Tremezzo, with views spanning the crystalline waters towards Bellagio and the Grigne mountains, it is one of the oldest hotels on the lake. From the moment you arrive you step back in time to the Belle Époque, an era filled of exuberance, vibrant colours and fancy fixtures. La dolce vita truly does await you!
Where to start?
The pool and lunch at T Pizza where the villa is surrounded by over 20,000 sqm of lush landscaping with bright varieties of azalea, tulips and geraniums to name a few. There are three pools, one of which is floating on the lake to many dining options all beautifully situated to take in the views. Cannot forget to mention their TShop filled with artisans the Grand collaborates with in crafting unique and thoughtful pieces. This hat found its way into my luggage!
We spent our day’s poolside and when we needed a break from the lounging we enjoyed visiting Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta. You know how I love immersing in the art and architecture.
A few tips for visiting each:
Villa del Balbianello will leave you breathless, thanks to its terraced gardens and picturesque views. It is roughly a 20 min walk (1km up hill path) from Via degli Artigiani, where you will either park or get dropped off or by taxiboat that leaves from Lenno Beach. We bought our tickets upon arrival. We spent roughly an hour and a half walking around and enjoying the views. Arrive early as the crowds do set in. There are washrooms on site and a small gift shop.
Villa Carlotta where art walks side by side with nature. The villa is effortlessly located right beside GHT. You also can purchase your ticket upon arrival. The villa is celebrated for its 17th century floors and ceilings all while marvelling at the gardens of species from around the world to the lake views. There are also washrooms on site and a small gift shop.
Conveniently GHT is steps away from the water taxis that take you to and from each town surrounding the lake. The hotel was so kind in helping up navigate the schedules. Being our stay was 3 nights and we were here to relax we didn’t want to venture too far. One evening we set out around 5pm to Bellagio, a 30 min water taxi ride away, a small yet
charming town with alleys filled with boutiques and restaurants.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Ristorante alle Darsene di Loppia.
Additional hilltop restaurants we were recommended in Tremezzo were Ristorante La Fagurida and Ali di Alice.
If there is one must while in Como- splurge and experience the magic of touring the lake by boat. The Grand has two of its own Venetian motorboats, one of which we enjoyed at sunset. We hired photographer Marta Guenziph who was so lovely and talented! She took us to nearby spots to capture the views by foot and then joined us on our boat ride. Our captain shared details about different properties and villas along the way; with prosecco in hand it was the perfect finale to our stay at GHT!
Thank you to Grand Hotel Tremezzo for your hospitality and promising the taste of eternal summer.
